BIC Sport Beach 225D Windsurfing Boards Reviews

It is impossible to firmly place the daggerboard (a swingkeel, really) in any position. You can bungee it fully perpendicular, but I did not feel I should have to do that with a brand new board. It is impossible to adjust the position of the daggerboard (say partially retracted) as the Bic manual suggests. This is because the board's position is supposed to be maintained by tightening two set screws (which do increase the pressure on the daggerboard from two compressible side rollers). Tightest setting is inadequate to maintain daggerboard against one finger pressure or any water movement. This is not a one time defect. Bic was gracious enough to send me (free) a 2nd insert for the board slot and it had the same inability to maintain board position. Bic assured me this same system has been used for over 20 years "without any complaints". They then advised me to forget about it and go enjoy my... I initially purchased a Mistral 130L Explosion board, but quickly found out that I couldn't master it. First, I was trying to sail in weak wind, and did not understand the basics. I didn't take lessons, so I used YouTube for the how-to in windsurfing. You would be better off by taking lessons, but I intended to do this all by myself. The 225D allowed me to do just that. The board is very stable and allows for major mistakes of a beginner. It is easy to stand on and sail even on waves. As you can see in my pictures I still have the boom installed way to high and my learning has much future. I would recommend the board to a beginner any day. |
